This course is designed for those that are interested in working with young people and the principles that go with it

What will I learn?

What will I learn?
You will learn the following:
• Introduction - youth work values and the National Occupational Standards.
• Models of youth work – Exploring different models of youth work delivery
• Communication in youth work – How to communicate with young people effectively and how to improve their communication skills
• Establishing Youth Work - How to establish youth work in a new area
• Understanding adolescence – Understanding the cognitive and physical changes that take place during adolescence
• Anti-discriminatory practice - Identifying the ways that our own prejudices impact our youth work, how to overcome these and how to build a culture of anti-discriminatory practice
• Safeguarding part 1 – Identifying the categories of abuse, their signs and symptoms and how to respond to disclosures
• Safeguarding part 2 – An overview of the ways in which children and young people can be exploited (with particular reference to CSE and CCE)
• Challenging behaviour – Understanding the root causes of challenging behaviour and how to respond appropriately
• E-safety – Understanding the risks posed to young people online and best practice to keep young people safe
• Legislation and self-care: An overview of the latest legislation related to youth work and how to ensure that youth workers look after their own mental, emotional and physical health
• Health and safety: How to write and implement risk assessments for young people and youth work activities
