This course is focused on people wanting to improve their English language skills for work. We will look at how to organise and look at a letter of application, use vocabulary for jobs and industries and make suggestions and give advice to someone.
This course intends to help students increase vocabulary, understand grammar use and improve pronunciation in order to gain confidence and proficiency. They will develop their ability to analyse complex text and engage in topical discussion with peers and native speakers.
Some of the topics covered are: formal and informal introductions; asking and answering questions; writing for publications and analysing published works and composing assignments; asking for advice and making and responding to suggestions. No textbook is needed, and course materials will be provided.
- Describe books (and movies), matching adjectives to descriptions and reviews, adding emphasis by inversion, pronunciation – words with ‘silent/syllables
- Education vocabulary and General Knowledge, Future Time Clauses when, until etc. First Conditional use and practice, pronunciation of the letter ‘u’
- Housing vocabulary, differentiating between First and Second Conditional, hypothetical situations using Second Conditional, rhythm in sentences for questions
- Talk about good luck and bad luck giving examples, agreeing and disagreeing with opinions, use of Third Conditional, how things could have been different in the past
- Talk about Modern Icons, learn technology vocabulary, identify and use Relative Clauses (defining and non-defining) and omit relative pronouns if possible
